Okay, lets get into the act…
Essay & Group Discussion
Topic: Whenever you find yourself on the majority side, its time to reform
Still, dont know what the intent of the topic was, but started off the discussion with the quote from Robert Frost.
” Two roads diverged in the yellow woods
I took the one less travelled by,
And that has made all the difference”
And started to talk about innovation, and how people who stepped out of the crowd made the difference to this world. Thats all, these were the only points which I blabbered on and on through out the GD. And some how in the discussion I came up with the example of Mohammed Bin Tughlaq, a genius whose ideas were behind times…and went on to explain how his idea of shifting the currency to leather was brilliant..and ended with saying that we use paper currency today..dunno how relevant was it to the topic..all in all a peaceful discussion with lots of wierd points coming out..I think it happens when the topic is very abstract.
I would rate myself as : Content : OK
Participation : OK
Overall : OK
Now comes the disastorous part, the Interview :
I was the fourth person to be interviewed, so spent time gorging on the free biscuits and the coffee provided there and speculating about the areas of expertise of the interviewers.
When my turn came,
Me: May I come in , Sirs (door half open and my body half into the room, and legs outside..)
P1,P2 : ya ya..come in…sit
P2 : so, anish tell me something about youself, your job. (signalling me to hand over my file)
P2 : Sure sir,…
P1 : Hey, whats wrong with your GPA in your third year…myy godd..its very low
Me : Sir, i was involved in a lot of extracurricurrals..ad i did not study hard enough..It was a mistake..
P1 : interrupting me…so u realised ur mistake…and corrected urself in your fourth year..
Me : yes, sir
P1 : We know, what happens to people’s grades in their fourth year..don’t teach us…
Me: ( Maar Daala yaar)..U r right sir
P2: so, u studied Principles of management..what did u learn in that course..
Me : Sir, we studied different aspects of management planning, staffing, leading..
P2 : so, whats the difference between staffing and leading
Me : Staffing deals with management pratices used in recruiting people and mamanging them, whereas leading deals with motivating people and leasding them..
P2 : Are they mutually exclusive ?
Me : No, sir, leading comes into play even in staffing..A leader can throw in a vision to the company as to how many people to be recruited etc…
P1 : But, that is very secondary..U r bringing in trivial things..
Me : Yes sir, its secondary, but important
P1: So, u studies probability, what did u studi in that..
Me : We studied distributions, conditional probability
P1: Define Probabilty
Me : (Struggled in the beginning..)But managed to explain that its estimating the chance of an favorable outcome..and went on to explain the theory behind the formula
P2 : Your answers are very vague..you don’t even know very simple things
P1: These extra curriculars..what did you do ?
Me : Sir, I was the student representative in my third year..
P1: so, you were into politics ( laughing very loudly)
Me : No sir, but we had to manage the science festival
P1 : ok ok..so you were a quizzer too..good
Me : Yes sir ( don’t know if its a compliment but thank you)
P2 : So, what can u tell me about the Indian economy ?
Me : We are about 960 billion dollars nominal gdp, growing at about 8.5% annually…on a very fast paced growth …we have grown by leaps and bounds in the last sixty years…be it the green revolution, white revolution, which revolutionised the agricultural sector…
P1 : (cutting me) Do u know who started these revolutions
Me: Yes sir, M S Swaminathan Green Revolution and Mr Verghese Kurien White Revolution…
P2: Why do you think ther’s wide disparity in production among states..lets ay delhi or bihar they are far behind states like gujarat, pujab ??
Me : We are the largest producer of milk in the world..
P2: hey, but wat abt percapita consumption..we just produce large quatity and consume also in large quantities.
Me: Yes sir, i think because of the policies adapted by the government and the local politics..
P2 to P1 : sarcastically laughing : He is giving lots of vague answers..
P1: Anywayz thank you anish..Please call the next person
Thats all, 10-12 mins…but what an experience..My ego was shattered to pieces….
Anywayz, after such a horrible start to the season, I came out thinking , may be they wil reject me straight away after the interview…
So, no Luck at Lucknow
